Geophysical Porous Media Multi-disciplinary Science from Nano- to Global-Scale Summer School at Purdue University

See ad in EOS magazine

Most graduate students working on multi-disciplinary projects focus on a piece of the project relevant to their field of study. Students rarely see the whole picture, and hence never gain a fuller understanding of the problem. The goal of this summer school is to overcome this approach by providing an environment that encourages geoscientists to look at the theory, and mathematicians to look at the physics of porous media problems while learning to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Graduate students in Applied Math, Geophysics, and related fields are invited to apply for a two-week, NSF-sponsored summer school in geophysical porous media to be held July 17-28th at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. We will cover the local expenses for up to 35 graduate students based on committee selection to ensure qualifications and balanced representation of disciplines. Participants will be responsible for transportation costs to and from West Lafayette, IN. Applications are due March 1, 2006. Additional information and the online application form can be found at http://www.physics.purdue.edu/flow/
